How Electricity Units Are Calculated
How the calculation works
One electricity unit is one kilowatt-hour (kWh). If your bill already states units consumed, use the first input mode. Otherwise subtract the previous meter reading from the current reading.
Category matters. Lifeline status depends on a single-phase connection, sanctioned load and twelve-month usage. Protected status depends on consumption during the previous six months. Select these only when your connection meets the official definition.
How slabs are applied
Lifeline and unprotected consumers use the single applicable current band rate. Protected consumers receive one previous-slab benefit: at 101–200 units, the first 100 units use the protected lower rate and only the remaining units use the next rate.
Why the actual bill can differ
The estimate includes verified energy and fixed charges, plus the lifeline minimum charge where relevant. It excludes period-specific adjustments, taxes, arrears, subsidies and other bill items.
